ICAA - DESIGN IN MIND

ON Location with James Ivory

Long Form Documentary: Creative / Production / Post

Since the mid 2010’s, the Institute of Classical Art & Architecture sought to support a long-form original content series that would bring attention to the non-profit in ways traditional video marketing couldn’t.

Accordingly,, Surrender Pictures developed Design in Mind , a series focused on exploring the work of various artists across a range of mediums who all follow the core principle of keeping classical design integrated into their process.  From filmmakers and architects, to interior designers, the 30 minute episodes we’ve produced - from pitch to delivery - now have a comfortable home on PBS, with the next installment slated for release next year.

In this episode, we explored the work and practice of James Ivory, renowned writer and director,y, just off the heels of his  Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for “Call Me By Your Name”, a film integral to the core mission of our Design in Mind series.

  • Surrender Pictures produced a long-form cultural documentary episode for the Institute of Classical Art & Architecture as part of the Design in Mind series, focusing on filmmaker James Ivory. The project connects film, design, and storytelling through classical principles.

The episode was designed for broadcast and digital audiences interested in art, architecture, and creative process.

  • Surrender handled creative development, production, and post-production, capturing an interview-driven narrative supported by contextual visuals.

Post-production focused on long-form pacing suitable for PBS broadcast and institutional platforms.

  • The episode aired on PBS and continues to serve as evergreen cultural programming across ICAA’s digital and educational channels.
