PACE GALLERY

Robert indiana

Commercial: Production / Post

Surrender Pictures partnered with PACE Gallery and the Robert Indiana Foundation to produce a series of films celebrating the legacy of Robert Indiana and his impact on the Pop Art movement. Commissioned for PACE’s Hong Kong exhibition, the videos explore Indiana’s iconic LOVE sculptures and his lasting influence on contemporary art. From creative development through final production, Surrender Pictures worked closely with both the Foundation and the Gallery to bring Indiana’s story to life on screen.

  • Surrender Pictures partnered with Pace Gallery to produce a pair of films marking the gallery’s 50th anniversary, centered on exhibitions dedicated to Robert Indiana in Hong Kong and New York City. The project examined Indiana’s enduring cultural impact while reflecting Pace’s long-standing role in shaping and stewarding contemporary art history over five decades.

Each film was designed to stand on its own while collectively reinforcing Pace’s global presence, institutional legacy, and continued commitment to artist-driven storytelling across international contexts.

  • Surrender handled video production and post-production for both films, combining newly captured footage with extensive archival material sourced from the Robert Indiana Foundation and Pace Gallery’s internal archives. Production included on-location filming in New York City, capturing interviews, exhibition context, and contemporary perspectives that connect Indiana’s work to the present day.

The editorial approach balanced historical documentation with visual restraint, allowing archival materials, artwork, and firsthand commentary to guide the narrative. Post-production focused on clarity and continuity, ensuring each film aligned with Pace’s curatorial voice while remaining distinct to its respective exhibition and location.

  • The films were used across Pace Gallery’s digital platforms, exhibition programming, and anniversary communications, supporting both the Hong Kong and New York exhibitions while reinforcing the gallery’s 50-year milestone. The content provided audiences, collectors, and institutional partners with deeper context around Robert Indiana’s legacy and Pace’s role in presenting his work globally.

Beyond the anniversary moment, the films continue to function as evergreen institutional and archival content, extending the exhibitions’ reach and serving as long-term documentation of Pace Gallery’s history, global footprint, and commitment to preserving artist legacies through thoughtful storytelling.
