LACMA Reimagined - vera lutter
Series: Creative / Production / Post
Produced by Surrender Pictures for Sotheby’s, this short film follows renowned artist Vera Lutter as she documents the transformation of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art using her signature pinhole photography technique. Commissioned to preserve the spirit of LACMA’s original architecture before its demolition, Lutter transforms entire museum galleries and exteriors into hauntingly beautiful, large-scale silver gelatin prints.
Surrender Pictures brought this intimate story to life through a blend of elegant cinematography, subtle VFX work, and refined motion graphics that echo Lutter’s minimalist aesthetic. The result is a meditative portrait of an institution in flux—anchored by an artist’s unique vision and a museum’s deep respect for its past.
Part of Sotheby’s “Contemporary Art” series, this video explores the intersection of memory, architecture, and photographic experimentation at a pivotal moment in LACMA’s history.
